The MSUM Club hockey team was started in the spring of 2018 by students looking to keep playing hockey competitively while pursuing a degree at MSUM. The team takes part in the American Club Hockey Association (ACHA) participating in the Division II level. The team will play 16-22 games over the course of a season playing area universities.
To be eligible for the team, players must be enrolled at Minnesota State University Moorhead and maintain a minimum grade point average of 2.0. Each player has five years of eligibility at the Division II level, with the exception of former NCAA players, who lose a year of eligibility for each year played at the NCAA level plus one additional year.
Players’ dues are collected at the beginning of the season. The dues help pay for hotel rooms, ice, referees, transportation, and many other related costs. In addition to dues, the club receives funding from SABC and does fundraising.
There will be two practices held a week (unless otherwise notified) at the Moorhead Youth Arena. Practices are usually for an hour.
Players are required to have black pants/shells, black-colored gloves, and a black helmet. Helmets can be borrowed from the team during the season, but players are responsible for providing the other necessary equipment. Game jerseys, practice jerseys, and game socks are also provided by the team.
